Concord Center

The Concord Center is an eleven-story, 150,000 square foot office building. Its design mimics that of its predecessor- the Jefferson County Courthouse, built in 1889.

BHATE has been the geotechnical engineer of record for nearly every major high-rise structure built in downtown Birmingham since 1975, making the firm the perfect choice for this project.

The Concord Center site presented unique geologic challenges to the design and construction teams. The site sits over a bed of pinnacled carbonate rock. BHATE recommended a foundation system consisting of caissons bearing into limestone.

The Concord Center also features a basement that extends to the sidewalk adjacent to an adjacent building, requiring a shoring system for excavation.
