BHATE was the geotechnical and materials engineer for this project. Sandstone and shale with coal seams underlie the site. Site preparation required cuts of 50+ feet and fills of about 35 feet in the building area. The bearing conditions varied from soil to bedrock at foundation levels. Excavation required blasting to remove rock. The building area was about 300,000 sq. ft. The earthwork quantity was about 1,000,000 cubic yards.

BHATE played a crucial role in preparation of site grading and foundation specifications and bid documents. With the variable conditions anticipated at this site, there was a real potential and opportunity for change orders. However, anticipating these site conditions we assisted the design team in preparing site specific specifications and bid documents resulting in minimized construction problems and changes. The work was completed on time and within budget. BHATE also provided all the construction testing services for this project.
